To produce acoustic and graphic elements that celebrate Turner & Townsend’s company expansion, as well as contributing to a welcoming and productive work environment.

Turner & Townsend

As a rapidly expanding company, global consultancy firm Turner & Townsend needed an office space that would accommodate a wide and diverse team. Having doubled the size of their Bristol office, the focus lied in creating a space that would not only suit their growing teams functionally, but also aesthetically.

Following the success of their previous office re-fit, both Wylde IA and ARTWORKS were reappointed to once again give Turner & Townsend a space they knew they would love.

Turner & Townsend’s previous office interior was centred around their original brand palette, which primarily featured the bold navy blue from their logo. While this was true to their brand, it was felt that a more muted range of colours would appeal to the broader range of people who would now be working in this office. Subsequently, a calm, earthy and relatively neutral theme was chosen, and brought to life through our ALTO acoustic products.

Taking into consideration the large amount of people that would be working in all areas of the space, we designed, produced, and installed multiple ceiling features in particularly busy and loud spaces, like communal working zones and boardrooms.

Offering both a functional and creative solution, not only did the addition of ALTO on the ceiling help to reduce excess background noise in potentially loud areas, it opened up the ceiling as a broad canvas for us to introduce the new colour scheme; We were creative with our ALTO colour choices when piecing together ALTO Grids, Floats, and Blades, each time using a combination of colours that complimented each other.

These ceiling features were a key example of how we executed the creative brief both functionally and aesthetically, by taking into consideration noise levels of large teams in communal areas and providing effective acoustic solutions to help with this, as well as using a range of neutral colour choices to appeal to the majority.

Although the chosen colours were far more muted than Turner & Townsend’s previous dark blue theme, we made sure the impact was still as bold. One of the most impactful applications of colour was a number of completely bespoke ALTO Form walls, with the slats sprayed and perfectly colour matched to the backing ALTO.

We colour drenched areas of the office with sprayed ALTO Form, once again not only to provide much needed sound absorption qualities, but to reinforce the chosen colour palette. These colours were extended further by pairing them with elements of the ceiling features, such as a section of an ALTO Grid structure in the same room. Where ALTO Form was used in other instances, we made sure to colour match the wooden slats to any surrounding joinery; The oak features were another way for us to ensure the overall cohesiveness of the theme.

Even though the new office brought with it a new colour scheme, the space was still home to the same company, so we made sure to keep the Turner & Townsend brand at the heart of the design, with branded elements throughout. Our ARTWORKS teams produced various graphics solutions, including illuminated signage featuring the Turner & Townsend logo, as well as items like branded dry wipe boards and store wall graphics.

Turner & Townsend’s new, larger space is a visual representation of their growth, with an elevated colour palette and design to suit their expanding and diverse teams. The introduction of ALTO not only allows the colour scheme to be celebrated, but creates a calm, echo free environment for everyone to work productively in.
